ESSAY: The Industrial Revolution and the new familiar structure. I t has been said that advertising has become women consumption objects. Nevertheless, this might be a real life reflection. The woman’s subordination to man has been used as a commercial and profitable action. Those advertisements addressed to men intend to attract their desire for autonomy and freedom, while those aimed to women appeal to their need of being beautiful and agreeable to man. Most of the feminine qualities are related to a childish, immature behaviour. The Christian society assess that man and woman have been created at God’s resemblance. Even the New Testament claims the complete equality between man and woman. As Paul of Tarso says: “There is no Jewish nor Greek, no servant nor freeman, no man nor female…” ( Gal. 3. 28). But the Christian society tend to employ the circumstantial rules: “ May woman learn silent with total subjection… For Adam has been made first, then Eve.” ( I Tim. 3, 11- 15). So, the western historical evolution fixed the social paradigm that kept untouched until the Industrial Revolution arrival. A new age Until 1860, the only familial structure was the patriarchy, though there was a period of unruly sexual exchange when Eastern polygamy and Tibetan poliandry were in use. According to J. Bachofen, is the religious reflection on people`s brain what has modified the natural, basic and affectionate relationship that comes out between a mother and her baby once he is born. Kate Millet states that “ The family is the patriarchy’s key instrument. It is a mirror and a link to society altogether, a patriarchal unity inside a patriarchal society. Settled between the individual and the social structure, the family wields control wherever Politics results insufficient.” Nowadays, everybody agrees about the critical situation inside the Family institution. In economic terms, families have stepped from being a production unit to a consumer one. The system`s economic needs have determined those changes. Women’s liberation If we admit what the anthropological and ethnological sciences teach us, the family has not been a natural entity whatsoever, but every historical circumstance has created a particular kind of family. Owed to the economic liberalism, the technical and scientific development that supplied the necessary for the beginning of a social production, the outcome of the Industrial Revolution played a conspicuous role in the new familial structure’s outline. Women became part of the working forces as well as men, what can be considered a starting point in women’s liberation and included new social responsibilities, other than motherhood or the housekeeping.
