"The Old Man and the Sea" was one of Hemingway's later works published during his lifetime, after giving birth to his best
known novels such as "Having or not having," "A Farewell to Arms" or "For Whom the Bell Tolls . That maturity with which it was written shows in the writing and, above all in the same plot. An old Cuban fisherman, Santiago, out to sea every day, but bad luck pursued him and fails to return with a good catch. A morning out to sail his small boat and, while waiting with bait in the water, a fish, apparently huge bites the hook. From there we wage a grueling struggle between the old fisherman, who can barely contain the animal in his tiny boat, and fish. After an enormous effort, James manages to capture him, but on the way home the sharks devour the prey of the fisher. And that's all. A novel of a little over one hundred and twenty pages, which is read in a heartbeat. Do your strengths? The same as many of the works of Hemingway. He was one of the few writers who, with careless way he gave shape arid and human nature in many of his characters. For my taste, his books waver in regards prose, although global critical defend to the death his "sober", perhaps his journalistic training gave him the one hand, of insight and observation skills and a rare insight, but On the other hand, played down "spark" literary. However, in this book that is solved by force that permeates the story. It's amazing the courage and daring of the hero, the old fisherman, with nothing to win or lose, who risks his life in pursuit of a fish, just for the thrill of the fight, the confrontation (something also very present in the work of Hemingway). The description of the three days that the sailor remains at sea, lost, animal fighting and defying the forces of nature, is an epic rare. Equally important is that outcome, the ultimate defeat that he inflicted nature, as if it were a divine punishment. For those who like strong stories, is an ideal book, although it is written almost like a fairy tale Santiago is an old Cuban fisherman. He is accompanied by a young boy named Manolito, with whom the sense of appreciation is mutual, but he had to leave by other fishermen in their fishing more successful because the old had very bad luck. However, he was helping. One day the old man went to sea with the aim of ending his slump in fishing. The boy had gotten bait. After a few hours of browsing, having lost sight of the shore, a fish took the bait. It was an enormous fish, ready to fight until death, if necessary. The boat sailed at the whim of offshore fish. The old forces were becoming less and predicted that the fish could kill him, but had a strong determination to get out of the water, and did not care if I had to leave their life in the attempt. After a long, hard battle, the fish had the worst luck and the old, full of happiness, because he did not believe the fish was so huge, tied alongside the boat to head for the coast. "Era so great that it was like tying a much larger boat on the side of his. " Every effort would have been useless without the fish got her to shore. However, to his dismay, saw a shark. When the shark came up to eat the fish the old man dealt a mortal blow to the head with his harpoon. He had escaped the shark, but would soon be approaching others on the trail of blood scattered the wounded fish. The old man managed to beat them, but they had eaten half a fish. At night they approached him again, that killed him, leaving only the head, spine and tail, enough to witness the feat. So, finally reached port. It was night and there was nobody to help you pick. When finished, he went home to sleep. The next morning the boy, very worried, went home to check on him and promised that he would go fishing with him. Other fishers recognized the merit of Santiago, to see the remains of fish, it was a shark.
